SPACE REVOLUTION DAY CELEBRATION

Space Revolution Day, observed annually on 17th September as part of the India Space Festival, marks a defining moment in the nation’s journey towards space excellence. This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who is being formally recognized as the Father of India’s Space Revolution, in acknowledgment of his visionary leadership and transformative contributions to the Indian space sector.

The maiden celebration of Space Revolution Day is being organized under the theme “Celebrating Innovation for Better Future: India's Space Research”, bringing together stakeholders from across the space ecosystem to reflect on achievements, foster dialogue, and inspire future advancements.

Since 2014, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has witnessed a strategic shift in its space vision—transitioning from isolated scientific pursuits to a dynamic ecosystem of innovation, international collaboration, and private sector engagement. The reforms introduced have accelerated technological progress and democratized access to space, making it a domain of opportunity for startups, academia, and industry alike.

Space Revolution Day is not merely a celebration—it is a reflection of India’s commitment to harnessing space for national development, scientific progress, and global leadership. As part of the broader India Space Festival, this observance serves as a platform to engage citizens, researchers, and institutions in shaping the future of space exploration in India.

Recognizing and continuing this momentum is essential to ensuring that India remains at the forefront of space innovation. Through this annual observance, we reaffirm our dedication to a future where space is a catalyst for growth, inclusion, and strategic advancement.

Why Celebrate Space Revolution Day on August 23

India celebrates Space Revolution Day on August 23rd to honor the historic success of Chandrayaan-3—India's third lunar mission—which successfully soft-landed on the Moon's south pole on August 23, 2023. This achievement made India the first country to reach the Moon’s south pole, and only the fourth country ever to achieve a soft lunar landing (after the US, USSR/Russia, and China).
